Love Song tries to shamelessly indulge in the tropes of love-based music, from 80s
pop ballads to neo-Romantic violin writing. It mimics a malfunctioning tape or CD
player, that jumps around, skips, loops and breaks down. It features many samples
taken from cheesy love poems, pop vocal samples, 80s chart hits and dating app
notifications.
The first movement samples a Magdelena Bay song, which is stuck looping, with
the violin revelling in an awe-some and blissful melodic space. The second
movement is a more typical love song, with a melody that is repeated with
variations and complexities.
